Temple of Luxor, Thebes, Egypt The Early Egyptian civilization grew up around the fertile strip of land along the Nile River. Building materials such as Granite, Sandstone, Limestone and Sand were abundantly available. Egyptian houses were constructed from sun dried brick called adobe. The Egyptians believed that the spirits of the dead lived on in an after life. The stone pyramids were built as the last resting-place of their kings. These tombs were lavishly outfitted to ensure a good after life. Temples were also built inside walled enclosures as places of worship to their Gods. [SB] {HO}
