INDEX NEXT UP LAST ATG Jesuit Jesuit

View of the Kapelibrucke (Chapel Bridge) and the Jesuit's Church During the mid-16th Century many schools throughout Europe began performing plays as part of their curriculum. This was most important in Jesuit schools. They used plays to teach students the glory of the Church and the evils of free-thought. Though the moral content of the plots was very high, these school plays became quite popular due to their use of music, song, elaborate settings and effects. Some very important playwrights were educated in these schools. Such as; Corneille, Moliere, and Goldoni. The Jesuit church in this photograph is found in Switzerland. [AL] {EB}
