18th Century Drama
The 18th century was a period of expansion rather than change.
Many theatres were built during this time to accommodate the growing audience.
Larger, lively audiences demanded a flow of new plays.
Variety type performances became popular with an evening's entertainment offering selections of comedy, tragedy, ballet, music and one-actor skits.
Dramas were often oversimplified portraying good prevailing over evil.
