Medieval Theatre

The first signs of drama in England were in the 10th Century. The first play consisted of four lines and was entitled Quem Quaeritis? It was written and staged by a group of clergymen in the Church, who wanted to make the Easter ceremony easier to understand. This play lengthened as more lines were added and actions were put in between. During the 11th and 12th Centuries other important biblical stories were dramatized.
