The word diary is derived from the Latin word, diarium, which itself comes
from, dies, meaning day.
A diary is a daily record of the writer’s own experiences, observations, attitudes,
thoughts, etc. This informal style is autobiographical writing.
Diary's a generally written for the writer’s use alone.
Therefore the diary has a directness to it that is nothing like writing done for publication.
The writing is often of a very personal nature.
In extraordinary situations diary writing is published. One famous diary is The Diary
of Anne Frank.
