Fiction is not presented as fact, even though it may be based on a true story or situation.
Works of fiction can be done in any of the forms of literature, including those most often used in writing non-fiction.
Fiction is derived from the Latin word fictio, which means the act of fashioning, or
moulding. It is writing that comes from the imagination of the writer. Fiction suggests a
story that is invented and fashioned either to entertain or to deceive.
Common types of literature in the fiction genre include
the novel and short story.
