INDEX NEXT UP LAST ATG Scat Scat

SAX SCAT Scatting runs something like this: "Shoo-doo-bedo-bapshoo-bop-dedo" and so on. This is called scatting. One of the main features of Jazz music, once a particular tune was established, the lead instruments(sax or trumpet usually) would take turns playing improvised solos. Sometimes, the band would be supporting a singer, so over time in the 30's, singers would take solos as well. After the words of the song were sung, and the band had taken their solo break, the singer would sing a solo. Not words, but parts of words. The sounds had to be catchy, and fast moving, to hold interest, but some singers such as Louis Armstrong or Ella Fitzgerald made scatting almost a career in itself. [AW] {NR}
