Cezanne (1839-1906)
Cézanne was the oldest of the post-impressionists.
His earliest style of painting was Neo-Baroque and some of his paintings shocked everyone.
Through his work Cézanne showed disciplined energy, which gives the mature style of Cézanne its enduring strength.

Cézanne then painted bright outdoor scenes with heavy, fluid pigment modelled with colour rather then light and dark shading.
His forms were deliberately simplified and consisted of solid and palpable shapes such as the cone, the sphere, and the cylinder.
All were outlined with dark colours.
His scenes were alive with movement, even his brushstrokes had a rhythmic pattern about them.
