Degas (1834-1917)
Degas adapted unusual angles and the oblique view, creating boldly calculated compositions which as a result made the images look unstudied like a snapshot.
He was concerned with problems of form.
He often portrayed only friends and relatives with whom he had emotional ties.
Popular are his images of dancers.
There was a profound sense of human character amidst his work, with their pastel colours and meaningful gestures.
Later in his life as he lost his eye sight to blindness he switched to sculpture.
