Homer (1836-1910)
Winslow Homer (1836-1910). Homer is a 'pre-impressionist'. He lived during the Industrial
Revolution.
He had a subtle design, created through clean dramatic outlines and loose
spontaneous strokes.

He was a pictorial reporter during the Civil War and a magazine illustrator
until 1875.
Homer travelled to Paris in 1866 and the French art there had an important impact
on his work. His work showed a youthful innocence and understanding of motion. Some
of his work was compared to Monet and Corot.
Homer worked in watercolour and loved the outdoors and natural light.
