Manet (1832-1883)
Edouard Manet was the first to grasp the importance of photography and artist such as Courbet.
The invention of the camera challenged handmade images and so artists began to look at their art in a
new light.
Manet believed in art for art's sake.
Rather then considering the canvas as a window with reality on the other side, the art itself was something to look at, no matter how much it strayed from reality.
His loyalty was to the canvas not the outside world. MORE!
