Seurat (1859-1891)
Georges Seurat's art was painted with the same systematic approach as that used by mathematicians and scientists
of that era.
He created the painting style referred to as Pointillism or Divisionism, in which the canvas
appears like a shimmering translucent screen made up of dots of brilliant colour meant to merge
in the viewers eye.
His figures were stable, with firm simple contours and relaxed immobile figures.
The figures held little bulk and were shown in profile or frontal position.
