INDEX NEXT UP LAST ATG Mannerism Mannerism

AGONY IN THE GARDEN BY EL GRECO Mannerism was originally a derogatory term applied to painters who had a formal, mannered style imitating various aspects of Raphael's and Michelangelo's. Feature's of this style include crisp and frozen shapes, elongated bodies, distorted forms, peculiar perspective views, and very individual and expressionistic approaches to subject matter. Mannerism is a collection of unique approaches which are extensions of Renaissance styles. A good example of this style is "Agony in the Garden" by El Greco. [MH] {GB}
