The ankh (also called ansate cross) is the Egyptian symbol for generation or enduring life. Only kings, queens and gods could carry it. It indicated that whoever held it had the power to give or take the life of another lesser mortal. [MH] {NR}
In hieroglyphics the ankh signified life. The ankh also forms part of hieroglyphics for such ideas as health and happiness. It is found in ancient tomb inscriptions where gods and pharaohs are often depicted holding it. The appearance of the ankh is of a cross-shaped like a T with a loop at the top. [RA] {BD} {EB} {DC}
