THREADING THE HEDDLES

After all the warp yarns have been drawn through the reed they are threaded one by one through the heddles. The order in which the warps are threaded is determined by the pattern and in this case by the number of harnesses available to the weaver.

This loom has 2 harnesses so the warps are threaded first through a heddle on harness one, then the next warp is threaded through a heddle on harness two. The warp yarns are threaded alternating between harness one and harness two until all the warp yarns are used.

Bundles of threaded warp ends are often tied together behind the heddles to prevent the yarn from slipping out. [SB] {SB}
