Ancient Iraq

The Mesopotamian region, where Iraq is located, is the territory of one of the world's oldest civilizations. This rich and fertile valley was first founded as the city-state of Sumer before 3000 BC. The Mesopotamian region has been ruled by the Babylonian empire, the Assyrian empire and finally the Persian dynasties for some 1000 years.
