Medieval Colombia
Through the arrival
of the Europeans, specifically the Spanish, the
territory now known as Colombia became a
colony called New Granada in 1838.
The capital of New Granada was Bogota, which remains the
capital of
present day Colombia.
Under the leadership of Simon Bolivar at the Battle of
Boyaca,
this region finally gained independence from the royalists in 1821.
