Croatia remained an
independent kingdom until the end of the 11th century.
At that time political unrest led to
intervention by Hungary.
Croatia accepted the ties to the Hungarian monarchy and existed as
an
autonomous kingdom under Hungarian rule from 1102 to 1849.
