Spanish explorer, Francisco Pizarro arrived in Ecuador in 1532. From the 16th century to the beginning of the 18th century Ecuador was controlled by viceroyalty in Peru and then New Granada. At the battle of Pichincha in 1822 the Ecuadorians fought the royalists for independence. The Ecuadorian military succeeded. [BM] {UA}
