Medieval Kenya

The Portuguese arrived in Kenya in 1498, & controlled that region until 1729. The Portuguese lost control of the eastern coast of Africa to the sultans of Oman. When the British arrived at the end of the 19th century it was not long before they controlled both the coast & interior region of Kenya. Kenya became a colony of Britain in 1920.
