Berbers arrived in the region which is now Morocco around 1000BC. The Mediterranean coast was inhabited by Phoenicians & Carthaginians. Around 40AD the region of Morocco came under Roman rule. In the 5th century the Romans were replaced by the dominant Germanic Vandals. During the 7th century Morocco was invaded by the Islamic. Many Berbers converted to the Islamic faith. However, ethnic tensions have existed between the Arabs & Berbers since the Islamic invasion. [BM] {UA}
