Medieval Palau
Palau was first inhabited by
Indonesians and Philippinos around 1500BC. It was not until 1521 that the
European explorer,
Ferdinand Magellan, visited the area. The British dominated trade to Palau until the
end of
the 19th century. From 1885 until 1889 Palau was controlled by the Spanish. This control was
short lived
as Spain sold Palau to Germany.
