Medieval Peru
Until the Spanish arrived in
1532 Peru was dominated by the Inca empire. The Incas, a highly advanced people,
controlled
most of the Andean region. With the arrival of the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro, the
decline of
the empire increased as a result of civil war and European diseases such as
measles & smallpox. By the end of the 16th century the Indian
population had been
devastated.
