The Philippines were settled in ancient days by groups of Southeast Asians. Tribal societies formed & trading bonds were established with China & the East Indies.The famous explorer Magellanvisited the Philippines in 1521. Magellan was to be killed in the Philippines. By 1571 Spanish colonial rule was established. The Spanish established the Philippines as a major trading point between Mexico & the Far East. Christianity was also firmly rooted at this time.
