Great Britain established a protectorate over the South Solomon Islands in 1893. Great Britain expanded the protectorate in 1898 to include the smaller easterly islands of the Solomon Island chain. Several years later Germany relinquinshed the North Solomons to Great Britain. At this time Germany relinquished several large islands including Santa Isabel & Choiseul. However, Germany retained Bougainville Island. [BM] {UA}
