Medieval Sudan

In the 7th century northern Sudan, the ancient land of Numibia, was incorporated into the Arab world with the wide & powerful sweep of Islam. The southern Sudan region was dominated by tribal black Africa & was uneffected by external control. In 1820 Egypt, then under the Ottoman empire, conquered northern Sudan. In the 19th century when British rule influenced Egypt it also influenced Sudan. The Anglo-Egyptian joint rule was firmly established in 1899. [BM] {UA}
