Medieval Turkey
By the end of the 1st
century AD all of Turkey was under the authority of the Roman Empire. Under the rule of
Constantine,
the mighty city of Constantinople was built. As the Roman Empire faded the
Byzantine Empire rose to power. The
end of the 13th century saw the rise of a small Turkish
tribe which grew to become one of the strongest Europeanempires in history. The Ottoman
Empire stretched from southeastern Europe into the Crimea & Iran, including most of
Egypt,
Arabia & the Middle East.
