The region which is now known as the United Arab Emirates was previously called the Pirates Coast. The Pirates Coast consisted of 7 small sheikhdoms between the nations of Qatar & Oman. The sheikhdoms were Abu, Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajmar, Fujairah, & Umm al-Qaiwain. Great Britain established a protectorate over these 7 small sheikhdoms in 1820. [BM] {UA}
