Medieval Venezuela
When the area of Venezuela
was first inhabited by Europeans during the 16th century there were some 50 000 sedentary
Indians living in Venezuela. The Europeans began to produce both wheat & cocoa in the the
area of Caracas, which is now
the capital of Venezuela. Caracas grew in importance as the
cocoa market expanded. African slave labour was
also an important part of the early economy
of Venezuela.
