After WWI the nation of Czechoslovakia was created. This multinational nation was primarily ruled by the Czechs, despite Slovak loyalty to Hungary. In 1939 Hitler gave Slovakia almost complete autonomy over the renamed Czecho-Slovakia. Soon after Hitler refused Czech independence, an "independent" Slovakia arose. This independence was an illusion as Slovakia remained under fascist rule & abided to Reich foreign policy. Sadly, some 60 000 Jews were killed in Slovakia. [BM] {UA}
