HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Modern Yemen

The port of Aden, on the coast of Yemen, came under British contol, & became a colony in 1839. The British claim to Aden followed disputes by the Portuguese, the Yemeni kings, & the Ottoman Turks. The Ottoman Empire sporadically controlled Yemen from the mid 16th century until the end of WWI. In 1918, two years after the war, Yemen declared independence. Yemen was threatened by both a Saudi invasion & disputes with Britain over claims to Aden. [BM] {UA}
