Throughout the mid 20th century there have been unrisings against communist rule in Hungary. Pictured here is a demonstration near the National Museum, Budapest, Hungary. The Soviets continued to repress the people and many fled the country. Free elections were finally held in 1990. The Democratic Forum led the country. However, serious problems with the economy led the uneasy population to re-elect the Communist party back into government in 1994. [BM] {UA}
