Though Kazakhstan fought against communist Russian rule, they were unable to conquer the Bolsheviks. Under communism Kazakhstan has sufferd from warfare, mass starvation & pressure from Soviet economic & social programs. Through Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev the Soviet States went through great reforms. In 1991 Kazakhstan was declared soverign, & joined the Commonwealth of Independent Nations. Recovery is slow but hopeful for Kazakhstan. [BM] {UA}
