Recent North Korea

In 1950 the Communist North invaded South Korea in an attempt to unite Korea under Soviet rule. This war led to the signing of a truce in 1953. Kim Il Sung led North Korea until his death in 1994. Since the 1960's North Korea has become economically stagnant. In 1994 an agreement was reached in which North Korea dismantled its nuclear facilities. In 1996 the country experienced severe floods forcing North Korea to accept aid from South Korea & Japan. [BM] {UA}
