Recent Qatar
After Qatar declared
independence in 1971 Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa, a member of the traditional monarchy,
ruled
the state. For over 30 years Qatar has
remained politically stable under the same ruler. In
1995 Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa was deposed by his son in a non-violent coup.
