Caving 3
The basis for
cave
terrain was laid
down millions of years ago in the limestone layers that lay on the floor of
ancient seas. The
caves were formed as the seas lowered, the stone hardened, and the earth's
layers heaved and
folded. Then water's slow scouring and eroding process created large
systems
of caves and
tunnels that run far into the Earth. Water percolating through the
earth
also carries minerals which
it deposits in stalactite and stalagmite formations,
forever changing the
underground topography. Back to Caving.
