INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS ATG Histamine Histamine

Histamine is released by the body during times of stress and allergy. It is in all body tissues and is important to the body's response to injury or invasion of foreign substances. In an allergic reaction, Histamine causes a runny nose and watery eyes. Antihistamines displace Histamine at receptor sites in tissue cells to counteract the effects of Histamine. Histamine also stimulates gastric juice secretion for digestion in the stomach. [LM] {AA} {MS}
