Operating System
A computer's operating system is it's most important piece of software. It
allows the user to access
all of the other programs on the computer such as word processors
or games. It also organizes files,
copies data, and other things. In the beginning,
operating systems were text-based. MS-DOS was the
most successful text-based OS. Later,
graphical interfaces became the norm. Windows and the
Macintosh OS are the most successful
graphical operating systems. Now there are 3D and voice
operating systems in development.
