Sandstone

Sandstone feels gritty to the touch. It consists of sand-sized particles held together by substances such as clay or silica. The colour of sandstone depends of the substance holding its particles together; sandstone may be white, green, red, or brown. The main mineral in sandstone is quartz. Sandstone develops mainly from accumulated sediment in deserts and beaches. It is used principally in construction. [LM] {CC}
