HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Sensorimotor Stage

Sorry, No Picture! This is the first stage in Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. Most humans are in this stage from birth until they are two years old. Babies in this stage are aware of things only through their five senses – they can’t remember things or "think about" things. For example, if you show a baby a stuffed toy, the baby knows the toy is there. But when you hide the toy behind your back, the baby doesn’t know where it is, and very quickly forgets all about it. [Comparing the brain to a computer: the baby can receive input, but cannot store, retrieve, or process the data.] [LJ] {PD}
