Chaining the Warp
After the warp is fully wound and the cross tied, it has to be removed from the warping board. To prevent the yarns from becoming a tangled mess, the warp is removed from the board in an orderly fashion called chaining the warp.
To chain off the warp, the end of the warp is removed from the last peg. A loop is made with this end of the warp bundle. The weaver slowly unwinds the warp, peg by peg, drawing the newly released warp threads through the loop. Multiple loops are created over the length of the warp.
After the complete warp has been chained, the end of the warp is drawn through the last loop securing the warp. The warp is now ready to be moved to the loom.
